Gothic Revival Walnut Corner Etagere

A rare New York Gothic Revival walnut corner etagere and cabinet ,Circa 1845. The French refer to this form as an" encoignure". New Yorks' know cabinetmakers had access to the latest Continental styles.The source for this design was published in Paris around 1839 by Michel Jansen.The treatment consists of a domical pediment surmounted by a fruiting finial above three graduated tiers seperated by pierced Gothic arches.The pair paneled bowed doors below rest on a molded plinth. Related examples can be found in museums throughout the country. They are not for sale. OURS IS.
