On rare occasions cabinetmakers
would produce models of furniture,
sometimes referred to as a
“salemans’ sample,” they also
made small pieces for children’s
playrooms. These too, are also rare
as few survived. This wonderful
example is in mint condition and
expands to receive three original
leaves. Everything is made as a
functional banquet table. The
woods are of choice walnut and
circassian walnut. It is in totally
original state and still retains all
of its brass hardware. Probably
from Philadelphia, circa 1860.
